What is Square?

Square is a payments and POS platform used across retail, services, and hospitality. It started as a card reader for small businesses and has expanded into online ordering, invoicing, payroll, and more. For food-and-beverage, Square for Restaurants adds table management, coursing, and an optional kitchen display system.

Square's QR ordering lets guests scan and order from a browser-based menu. The platform uses generic vocabulary — tables, walk-up windows, parking spots — that works across many business types. Square is the leading POS for food trucks, where that model fits well.

What is Ordd.io?

Ordd.io is the operating system for outdoor hospitality — campgrounds, RV resorts, pools and swim clubs, resorts and cabanas, marinas, and food trucks. Guests scan a QR code at their site, chair, or slip and order from their phone with no app. Orders can be delivered to named, mapped locations or trigger an SMS when ready at the window. The site tab is the room charge of the outdoors: guests open a multi-day tab at check-in (site number + 4-digit PIN), charge food, firewood, and WiFi throughout their stay, and settle at checkout — no PMS integration required.

Generic vocabulary vs outdoor delivery

Square's ordering vocabulary is built for general use: when you add a QR location in Square, you're adding a table, a walk-up window, or a parking spot. That works fine for a coffee shop or food truck. It doesn't map to how outdoor venues actually run: your guest is 400 yards from the snack bar, at a campsite with a fire ring, not at a table with a number placard.

Ordd.io was designed around the outdoor delivery problem from day one. Location names are operator-defined and map directly to your site layout:

Square has no multi-day site-tab concept. Transactions are per-visit; there is no built-in way to open a running balance at check-in and settle it at checkout across multiple days without a custom integration.
