The short version

Ordd.io is an ordering OS built for outdoor hospitality. Guests scan a QR at their campsite, cabana, dock slip, or pool chair — order from their phone (no app) — and charge it to a site tab (site number + 4-digit PIN, settled at checkout). Staff deliver to named, mapped locations. $249 flat per month, no hardware to buy, no commission, no PMS required.

Toast is a restaurant POS with deep roots in the dining room. Its hotel-restaurant vertical names poolside and room-service ordering, but multi-day billing is handled via PMS folio posting — a paid integration add-on. Toast is a hardware-terminal model: you purchase proprietary terminals ($799+) before you go live.

Key difference: Toast was built for the dining room. Ordd.io was built for everywhere guests roam outside it.

03 Deep dive

What is Ordd.io?

Ordd.io is the operating system for outdoor hospitality. It gives every campsite, RV pad, pool chair, dock slip, and cabana a QR code that guests scan — no app required, no hardware to buy. Orders flow to your staff POS in real time. The guest pays at the point of order or runs a multi-day site tab and settles at checkout with a 4-digit PIN.

One dashboard, unlimited storefronts. Run the pool bar, camp store, and snack shack as separate menus with their own hours — all on the same $249/month plan. Staff use SMS "order ready" notifications instead of PA systems. Happy-hour, scheduled, and seasonal pricing automate themselves. The owner's AI morning digest summarizes sales, weather, trending items, and restock flags before the gates open.

Ordd.io works on devices you already own. There is no hardware sales pitch at the end of the demo.

What is Toast?

Toast is a full-service restaurant POS platform built on proprietary hardware terminals. It covers dining-room ordering, kitchen display systems, payroll, inventory, and loyalty for restaurants, cafés, and hotel food-and-beverage outlets. Toast's hotel-restaurant vertical explicitly names poolside and room-service ordering — a real capability for hotel properties.

Toast pricing starts at $69/month for software, but you must purchase Toast-proprietary hardware ($799+ per terminal) before going live. Most Toast customers are on annual contracts. Multi-day billing for a hotel-style folio requires a paid integration add-on with a property management system (~$75/month per a 2022 Toast release). Toast has never named campgrounds, marinas, or swim clubs as target segments.

Outdoor vocabulary: sites, cabanas, slips, chairs

The core challenge for an outdoor venue isn't just QR ordering — it's the vocabulary of where guests sit. Your guest isn't at "Table 7." They're at Site 47 · Lakeside Loop, or Cabana 5, or Slip B-12, or Chair C-14. Delivery that can't speak those names is guesswork for staff.

Toast names poolside and room service in its hotel-restaurant vertical — a genuine strength for a traditional hotel. It has never named campgrounds, marinas, swim clubs, or food-truck windows as delivery targets. Its mapped delivery model is built around hotel floor plans, not campground loops or marina dock grids.

Ordd.io's delivery model is built on those named outdoor locations from day one. Staff see SITE 47 · LAKESIDE on the kitchen screen, not a table number that means nothing outside the dining room.

Multi-day tabs without a PMS

A campground guest checks in Friday, orders burgers and firewood Saturday, ice Sunday morning, and settles at checkout Monday. That's a 3-day tab. In a hotel this is called a folio — and Toast can post charges to a folio via its PMS integration add-on (~$75/month, requires a compatible property management system).

Most campgrounds and RV parks don't run a PMS in the hotel sense. They use reservation platforms like Campspot or Campfire. Connecting Toast's folio feature to those systems requires custom integration work and the paid add-on. The native Toast terminal doesn't open a tab the way a campground site tab works.

Ordd.io ships multi-day site tabs natively — no PMS required. A guest enters their site number and sets a 4-digit PIN at first order. Every subsequent order from that site number adds to the tab. At checkout the operator closes it. It's the room charge of the outdoors, and it doesn't need a property management system to function.

Hardware & seasonality

Toast is a hardware company as much as it is a software company. Its terminals are proprietary — you cannot run Toast on a device you already own for the staff POS role. That means capital expense before your first order, plus hardware that sits idle when your pool closes in October.

Ordd.io runs on any browser-capable device. Your existing tablet, phone, or laptop is the staff terminal. There is nothing to ship, install, or mothball.

04 The verdict

When to choose each

Choose Ordd.io if…

You run a campground, RV resort, swim club, marina, pool bar, or food truck where guests move, the season turns, and delivery means something specific — Site 47, Cabana 5, Slip B-12, Chair C-14. You want multi-day site tabs without buying a PMS. You want to be live in 20 minutes without purchasing hardware. You want a flat monthly fee, month-to-month, and no commission on every order your guests place.

Choose Toast if…

You're running a full-service restaurant, hotel food-and-beverage outlet, or a dining room where you need an all-in-one POS replacement — kitchen display, payroll, inventory, loyalty — and you're ready to invest in proprietary hardware and an annual contract. Toast's hotel-restaurant vertical is a genuine fit for poolside and room-service ordering at traditional hotel properties connected to a PMS.

Can you use both?

Yes. Some outdoor venues run a full-service sit-down restaurant alongside their campground or marina. If you need a dining-room POS for your restaurant and separate outdoor ordering for your sites, Ordd.io can run standalone alongside Toast. The two systems don't conflict — Ordd.io handles the outdoor guest experience while Toast handles the four-top inside.

Bottom line

Toast is the right call for operators whose business lives in the dining room. Ordd.io is the right call for operators whose guests roam — across 40 acres of campsites, down marina docks, around a pool deck, or up to a walk-up window. If your guest is 400 yards from the snack bar, Ordd.io was built for that moment.
